The Flatlands tribute thread

Remember the Flatlands in Melbourne? I loved that place when I was fourteen.

Before Federation Square was built for the yuppies and tourists, there was the beautifully ugly Gas and Fuel buildings. And next door, the Flatlands.

Those were days when wheels were tiny, when the fashonable skater wore baggy orange Cross- Colours jeans, when Sam Morgan didn't yet look like Mick Hucknall from Simply Red (just kidding, Sam)

Didn't somebody ollie that huge double set at the front? Was it Salman Agah or Ryan Denerez?

Ah, the memories...it's like Proust....

Who cares, it was just a big smooth surface and a bunch of dirty skate rats. I'm glad it's gone.

Wasnt there banches? I saw tons of footage of those guys flipping over benches on their side and standing up.
Really poppy flatland stuff too.

Yeah there were benches that you'd do stuff over, but you couldn't grind them or slide on them. As a spot it was over rated.

I concur. SLAM magazine is also completely overrated and makes for good ornamentation in one's shitter.

I hate SLAM too.

I saw an epic demo there. Koston, Creager, Keenan and Chany. Creager was amazing.

It was a fun place to skate and meet upwith crew.
There were benches and propped up kickers.
Smooth surface.
The first place I ever saw Lewis Marnell, Mike Denovan and Tristan Walker skate. There were sick demos there. Dom Kekich developed his street pop there.
You could skate, chill, drink, meet chicks and film lines for days, and shifty fortys was downstairs...

NIKEEEM 17:56 05/Apr/09

I could only just ollie the medium benchs there, but Dom could nollie and switch ollie over the big bench !! super pop....

I also heard that one of Kirby's flatland lines is still going to this very day!

nav... 18:12 05/Apr/09

hang on...

a vert skater who can switch ollie benches?

did I miss april fools or something!

NIKEEEM 18:19 05/Apr/09
