> SAVE LINCOLN SQUARE
5:30pm tonight at Melbourne, City Town Hall.
They want to ban skateboarding from Lincoln Square, cause they think the public used Lincoln more than skateboarders and that we are disrespectful.
Come support tonight. Don't be lazy! If you care about skateboarding so much, and skate Lincoln every week, then show up!
We need as many people there to show the city we want our support. We don't have any ledge spots at IMAX or the city, this is our best warm up spot.
Wish I could be there to support. I've only skated Lincoln a handful of times, and I can honestly say it's my favourite spot.
This outlines some of the grievances for those heading to the meeting to counter. Best of luck
I love Lincoln. Hopefully all the skaters in melb turn up for what to keep the great spot going
Yeah how did it go? It would be a shame if it went. I don't really roll there but it's up to the regulars now to keep it tidy and all that. Not saying it isn't kept that way, I wouldn't know. If it ends up being all good it might be time to get it to be a full permission spot and de capped and all that. You will have to wait a while after this meeting and build good faith ect. I'm happy to help with some advice or whatever in that regard
Point 7 sounds like they were willing to compromise as long as dudes don't fuck it up for the everyone else. Skate during the day, no grog, and watch where you skate. Sounds fair to me. How did it go?

This is a sad day for skateboarding. We do not agree with the results of the meeting and believe it comes from a profound misunderstanding of what skateboarding is about.
Mayor Doyle said that he was appalled by the offensive and disrespectful actions of people who used the memorial in Lincoln Square to peform tricks.
“Time’s up for this selfish minority who tried to capture a part of the city for themselves,” he said. “It’s just not on”.
City of Melbourne councillors have voted to redesign the park to make it unsuitable and unattractive for skateboarders.
Works costing up to $300,000 could start by April.

That's absolutely fucked. $300,000 to be spent to revamp a place to make it unskateable.
Pisses me off.
Not very well apparently. They're spending $300,000 dollars to resdesign the place and make it "unattractive to skateboarders". http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/victoria/revamp-to-stop-skateboarders-tricks-at-lincoln-square-bali-bombing-memorial-in-carlton/story-fni0fit3-1227150317607

$300,000 to be spent on redesigning Lincoln Square in Melbourne to make it "skateboarder proof". Council could have probably made a purpose built skate plaza with that money or just reached a compromise with skateboarders (code-of-conduct was suggested) and not spent any money at all. Nice job on preventing a bunch of young people from gathering in a public space for a harmless recreational activity.
