Morayfield. Vert. Lights

Justin Sawell 22:08 26/Jul/06

Now that I've escaped from NSW, it's time to give the vert a workout.

Dropped in at Morayfield and a couple of grinds, but it was after dark and pretty sketchy. The lights light up the concrete BMX track (all it is, really), but there's nothing for the half pipe.

So....some questions:

1. Anyone up for a weeknight vert session at Morayfield?
2. Anyone in the area have a genny? - I have some floodlights but no power.
3. Anyone up for a weekend or weekday session? Since I work from home, I can probably sneak past the missus and get in an hour or so in the steel paradise

4. Even if you aren't up for the vert, bring your camera and post the pix. Get props & hate at the same time!

C'mon, give it a go. If an old fart like me can drop in at night on a new ramp, surely a street skater or two can progress from kickflips to kickturns?

Is there dew / wetness on the ramp after about 5pm?? All the other metal / ply ramps seem to have issues with it around Brisbane this time of year, so just checking.

Can't have you getting out there for a roll only to slip out on the ramp.

Also, have you talked to or seen the local vert skaters / old guys there?

Morayfield has quite a good group of guys - Tim (out with broken foot, I think), Tyrone, Eden Woodcock, etc as well as a lot of younger kids coming up and getting their skate on.

A good place to find them, or get their numbers is from Skatebase - shop just across from the park along the main strip. Go in and have a chat to Tony who runs it.

Lastly, do you get together with any other oldies? the BOSS group is always welcoming to other older skaters. Just let us know and I will email you the link.

There wasn't any dew there at 6pm on Sunday night. I've only dropped in on 3 vert ramps: Leederville in December last year, Monster at Easter and Morayfield. The ramp is pretty good even late at night, I felt fine even though I haven't skated vert in a long while, and even then it was drop-in, kickturn...

The place was deserted except for 3 bmxers who couldn't believe we were skating the half-pipe...I will have to go into SkateBase and have a chat.

I'd love to skate with the BOSS - justinsawell@bigpond.com should find me.

Thanks much!

who are you msk-75 ?

Id love to be able to skate vert but im still working up to it.

DO you live near morayfield Justin ? A few of the boss guys have gennies.

Shep 10:41 27/Jul/06

Ramp does get slippery. Was out there 2 weeks ago, and it was virtually unskateable. Just depends on the variables.

Albert. 10:55 27/Jul/06

can really only skate it when it's onshore

Shep 11:02 27/Jul/06

haha.. Funny you should say that. There was some "gut sliders" there last time. (little kids sliding down the trannies on their guts)
Booger styles..

geebz 11:11 27/Jul/06

dont you ride a esky lid shep !

Shep 11:31 27/Jul/06

Nope.

Justin Sawell 14:02 27/Jul/06

Yeah, I live near the hospital in Morayfield, its about 2 minutes by car down the strip to the ramp. By Sydney standards I live next door...

Shep 15:54 27/Jul/06

There's sometimes a Deagon night time session in the bowl, Justin. Most of the time though, the night timers are on the southside.

Justin Sawell 16:39 27/Jul/06

Well, tomorrow after lunch I will try to be there. So anyone who reads this and can make it - great.

Shep 17:00 27/Jul/06

:( work.

Justin Sawell 20:12 27/Jul/06

Pity we can't call in "skating" and have the day off. Even the arvo off and all end up in the pub. *Sigh*

Only reason I'm going is because I've made my budget for this month so I may as well enjoy the last day or so.

Hey man. Keen to step it up to the verty. I think wheels are in motion to getcha on the BOSS email list.
