Convic Update October

Potty2617 15:55 11/Oct/08

Convic is pleased to announce that the Cairns Esplanade Skatepark received a design award in this years Australian Institute of Landscape Architects national awards. We are excited that this internationally important & innovative skatepark development has been scrutinized and judged as an important public recreation space of national significance. We see this integrated large scale facility sitting on Cairns major Esplanade precinct as setting the new standard in skate facility provision world wide. Click on this link for an overview.

Singapore’s national “Extreme Sports Facility” designed by Convic is currently under construction. Check out the render here for a look at what’s coming and check back soon to see the progress pics.

A new bowl for MEADOW HEIGHTS (VIC) has been completed. The bowl heights range from 1.5m up to 2.7m, has varying transitions, over-vert corner, hips and a waterfall. Accompanying the bowl are several long ledges. The bowl which will cater for all levels of users will be a good training spot for the existing larger bowl at Epping. Check this render and a nice panorama shot of the bowl thanks to Matt Grant.

A new park is coming along swiftly at TOWNSVILLE (QLD). This park will cater for all users with its bowl, street area and concrete jumps tracks. The park was designed to ensure it will cater for all levels of users through choice of elements to the heights. Will have some pics up soon.

BORDERTOWN (SA) is the next stop for Convic Skateparks with construction starting there soon. The open bowl (due to drainage concerns) starts with a 1.2m deep mini ramp section which leads into two separate pockets. The pockets have heights of 1.5m and 1.8m and are joined by a spine. It also features various hips and a waterfall. The platform of the bowl has two ledges and flat rail. We will ensure we get completed pics up once done although for now check out this render.

The existing park in THORNLANDS (QLD) has had some extension works recently completed. The works designed by Convic in collaboration with local Bart Carnes include a street run with banks, ledges, euro-gap and hubbas. New elements on the existing concrete pad include several quarter pipes and a street-styled flat bank.
