Paddo DIY Fix-up

shearer 12:53 28/Jan/11

Paddo skate park will be undergoing a DIY fix up this weekend in preparation for the upcoming skate park event on Sunday 13 February as part of the Stoke skateboarding exhibition at the Museum of Brisbane, and to showcase to the authorities how rad paddo could be if a bit of love and cash was pumped into her. The fix up will involve cleaning the skate park with a high pressure water blaster and filling in any cracks and gaps on Saturday from 8am onwards, and on Sunday painting the whole park a concrete colour to give a bit of life back into the old girl! So, if you are thinking of heading down to Paddo on the weekend you may want to reconsider as the park will be out of action for most of the weekend. There are a few street spots around Paddo/Milton you could hit. It will be worth the wait!

I don't want to sound rude, but I think it is time that wall got changed. No offence to the memory of Shane Cross, but prior to Shane's mural, there was a mural up there of another Paddo local whose life was cut tragically short, Leeroy. Many of you probably wouldn't have even heard of him, but there are plenty of people from the late 90's, early 00's Paddo days that would remember him well.

This is just an idea, but since The Stoke is running and the event at Paddo is part of the exhibition, perhaps something more fitting to the memory of Brisbane's skateboarding history, including those locals who have fallen, would be more appropriate. Not to include people like Mitch Byrne or legendary OG Paddo local, Skip, would also be remiss.

As I said, this is in no way meant as an offence to the memory to Shane Cross, just suggesting that we consider remembering all those who have passed that have contributed to the rich history of Brisbane skateboarding, many who would also be called Paddo locals.

Why not a mural of all the fallen local skaters? Why does it just have to be one skater?

I'm pretty sure that's what I was implying Justy.
