It started innocently enough with me picking up the trusty mach 3 in order to tidy up some hair aroung....
Aahhh that would suck.
I decided to give my bearings a clean yesterday. So after taking the shields off and crowns out, I picked one bearing up and gave it spin. To my horror all the balls spilled out so that everything fell copletely appart. I managed to find all seven of the little guys and spent a frustrating half hour trying to put the pieces back together, but I failed.
So, my skate related question is whether its even possible to put it back together, and if so is there any correct order or tricks to doing so. The're expensive ceramic bearings so Id like to have a whole working set, rather than replace one with an old cruddy one.
Yeah you can get them back together. Mulhall or Mosu or someone will have the knowledge.
take outer race between forefinger and thumb hold the race on lowest part so the finger tip and thumb and race form a "cup".
place 4 bearings in the lowest part of "the cup" and in a line and put inner race on the bearings but place it at an angle.
delicately put remaining bearings in one at a time last one is worst.
once all the bearings are in between both races use a pin or a toothpick and move the bearings so they are evenly spaced then place the nylon crown in its original location
you will drop the bearings so doing this over a bucket helps.
do not attempt to do this pissed.
youll get it ceramics are to expensive to throw away. check out your local hardware store for crc 808 silicone spray. best bearing lube you will find. costs about $15
it had this same problem as a grommie trying to piece together a swiss bone bearing i was trying to clean. I could never get that 7th ball to stay in place long enough for me to get the inner bit of the bearing on.
Anyway, so I used honey to stick em in. then once they were evenly spaced and the bearing was complete i cleaned them and lubed em.
