> MINI RAMP PLY??
im making a mini ramp in my back yard and was wondering if any one knows if 7mm pine ply would be thick enough by its self for the surfacing.
any other tips would be good aswell
cheers
yer i know where to get it i just wanna know if 7mm would be thick enough because none of the ppl that work at these place know
ohh shit haha sorry didnt read it write
umm i can measure the thickness of my ply on my qaurter in the morning coz id say that would be around 7mm and it is pretty stong
Just go in and ask for Marine ply at whatever thickness you wanted, they should have it there. It's a bit pricey I think but it's good and will do the job.
i dont think 7mm would be enough. you want a good surface on it unless its indoor due to weather. but you would still want something that is good
i already checked, marine ply is $150 a sheet and i need six sheets and i dont wanna spend that much
thanks jordie
i checked 15 and it wont bend very much unless u cut a few mm out of the back of it
I can't beleive the misdirection here!
7mm is good and easy enough to bend, but you will need at least two sheets possibly three if you skate heavy
15mm is no way going to bend to the shape of a tranny without soaking it or something first... which I don't know anyone who's actually bothered to do that
be prepared to change the main surface ply every 6 months or so if the ramp is going to live outside. Ply gets destroyed by weather pretty easily.
and one final tip - if this is your first ramp... no matter how mellow it looks on paper, it's going to be way steeper than you think in real life!
sorry flaz you beat me to it!
Sean, half the fun of building a ramp is scrounging materials.
Also check the builders tip or any second hand building materials places. Get all your framework from places like that, you dont need to go to bunnings and get 'nice' looking wood for your frame! Just make sure it's not hardwood unless you wanna pre-drill all your holes and have you ramp weight 6 tonnes
"no matter how mellow it looks on paper, it's going to be way steeper than you think in real life!"
true that
2 layers as said before, paint all sufaces of all ply or it will get soggy.
And soon as you've built it start saving for a new top layer.
