Brisbane comps April May

Mark Brimson 10:35 16/Apr/09

A lot of people have been asking me when any more comps are on in Brisbane, which unfortunately is usually met with a "dunno, eh!" response, but at least now there are a couple coming up.

________________________

Stafford comp this Saturday 18th April 2009, lots going on in the park, but the main thing to note is the day runs from 11am to 5pm.

There will be a skate workshop (learn to skate / teach new tricks, etc) early on and then a junior and senior comp through the day.

Prizes will be plentiful thanks to Seven Skates (decks, tshirts, wheels, etc) plus a heap of other proddy from my usual collection, so it should be a good day to get your roll on at Stafford.

________________________

There is something happening soon at Paddo too, not run by me, but I heard there will be a comp organised by a local radio station with support from a Brisbane shop on Sat 2nd May 2009, details unsure, but they asked me to help but I am already running an event at Nerang on that same day (workshop and mini comp 10am - 12pm).

________________________

The other really big one in the Brisbane area is the Lota Bay Wave comp happening on Sat 16th May 2009.

Again big thanks to Seven Skates for lots of prizes and most likely have Skatebiz on board as well for a very good day at the old park. Each year this day seems to get a bigger and better turn out with lots of skaters coming from all over, so I will try to get as much stuff and make it as much fun as I can once again.

For anyone who was wondering about the annual PCYC comp happening at Hibiscus park, it didn't go ahead during Youth Week as there was so much else happening around the same time but they are looking at running it later on in the year. I have been working and away a lot so had not really be able to get involved with the PCYC this year, but I hear they are well on their way with some good sponsors already on the bill.

If older forum heads remember, "siamese" was keen on seeing a better comp among other things, but then unable to lend his professional services, so if you are keen and able, the PCYC would welcome any help or involvement in it from "real skateboarders" and not old wash ups like me.

BCC is still going Active and Healthy with a lot of skate workshops throughout the year, if learning is more your thing, rather than going in comps too.

If there are any other events going on please let someone know or put them up in the event listing, as all of my other ones are in and around the Brisbane area.

..RANGY.. 13:31 16/Apr/09

Coops?? Or capalaba??

Mark Brimson 23:48 16/Apr/09

If you want more skate comps / events here is what you need to do:

1. Talk to the local skate shop about comps and let them know you are keen, get names down for interest, etc.

2. Talk to Council and community groups, especially ones who have run events in the past, same as number 1 but just different group to talk to.

3. Check to see if any industry brands / distros / groups are keen or able to support the event, eg call them, email them, talk to them if you know who to talk to.

4. Failing all that, do what the Pac Pines kids did and have a DIY comp, which worked really well and ended up getting some spono prizes anyway on the day.

Don't forget to put it up on here, or ask for help too.

As for any other events or comps, if I don't know about it, then I have not put it up in event listings.

Mark Brimson 04:49 21/Apr/09

Well I tried to fit it all in the gaps, then ended up just taking over for the rest of the afternoon to end up running untimed single runs. Sounds funny but at least everyone seemed to like it more than jam on various obstacles round the park...
