Vans Park Series Shanghai
With just one week left until the ultimate park terrain skateboarding battle, the world's skateboarding elite are honing their skills in preparation for the 2017 Vans Park Series World Championships taking place in Shanghai, China on September 23. Watch here for a recap of the VPS season's best moments as the official world title showdown sets out to make history yet again.
Leading the men's field with soaring results all season, top ranked tour challenger, Tom Schaar (USA) has emerged as a serious threat to the competition as he looks to unseat current world champion, Alex Sorgente (USA) and earn his rank against an open field of select VPS Continental Champions like Europa Champion, Rune Glifberg (DEN) and Americas Champion, Patrick Ryan (USA). Expect to witness an intense clash of titans as seasoned pros Pedro Barros (BRA), Ivan Federico (ITA), Jack Fardell (AUS), Raven Tershy (USA) and more battle it out for park skateboarding's premiere honor. In the women's division, reigning VPS World Champion Brighton Zeuner (USA) will also defend her title, vying against a diverse class of international contenders including Oceania Champion, Poppy Starr Olsen (AUS), Amelia Brodka (POL), Kisa Nakamura (JPN) and Lizzie Armanto (USA). See below for the full list of competitors.
Located in the world-famous Bund waterfront area in central Shanghai, China, the 2017 VPS World Championships will pit skateboarding's elite pros against select VPS Continental Champions to present the greatest showcase of men's and women's park terrain skateboarding talent the world has ever seen in a custom designed and purpose-built, VPS-certified park terrain competition course. With a total purse of more than US$160,000 on the line, this historic culmination will officially crown the men's and women's 2017 VPS World Champions of Park Terrain Skateboarding and establish next year's elite VPS Pro Tour class.
The official 2017 VPS World Championships will broadcast live from Shanghai on Red Bull TV and vansparkseries.com in English, Mandarin and Portuguese on September 23.
