I need a mic to record with, anything with decent sound quality, doesn't have to be super extreme crazy asian 3000 good or anything.
looking at up to $150 maybe more, or maybe less, depends on which way the penny drops

for our bands last demo, we used $10 kariokie mics!! ha ha ha!
eah what Sean said Dregs. They have an SM57, and a SM58. One's designed more for use on instruments, and the other is designed more for vocals. I can't remember which is which off the top of my head, but either will do the job just fine.
I bought a mic for $2 from a $2 store because I needed a jack which was included with it.
I can try suss out the name of the $2 store for you if you want?
thats right fox, i think 58 is the instument mic... i think...dunno off the top of my head, but you can do vocals with the instument mic and it still works all ine, just picks up lower levels of sound...
sm58 is more for vocals where as
sm57 is more for instruments
however both is good for either thing in my opinion
i did work experiance in music city. once some guy asked me about a microphone he wanted, i had no idea what he was talking about
If you don't have any luck with finding a shure at the right price, there's a company called Leem that make lower end mic's. They do one that is meant to be a copy of the sm58. Five or so years ago you could pick them up new for about $65. No doubt they've gone up in price by now. My old man gave them a thorough going over, and the only real noticable difference's, if you can spot them, is a higher response on the low frequencies within the first 1-2cm's (so if you stick your lips on the mic while you use it, it will be a little more likely to bottom out), and the casing is a bit of a cheaper make then the shure, so if you let it slop around in your hand it will pick up a bit more of the noise from that.
