Is this the one where they talk about an album? Did you happen to catch what album they were doing it on?
And thanks heaps for the heads up!!

bondiboy66 14:06 16/Apr/07

I thin its 'Overnight Sensation' and 'Apostrophe(')'...I think thats right, but I'm not much good for Zappa stuff other than 'Weasel Ripped My Flesh', '200 Motels' and Moon Unit doing 'Valley Girl' (which has THE most rockin bassline EVER - and I can't play it mores the pity).

yeah, maybe chck it out on sbs.com.au to be sure to be sure.

I didn't really listen cos as soonas i heard zappa i got onto this site to let you know. Alhough I did hear "i like erotism in my music" for some reason

I'm assuming its based on an album or two but also that they'd cover him and his music generally

TuN$tall 15:39 16/Apr/07

I purchased my first Zappa record a couple of weeks ago, it happened to be Apostrophe('). I'm gunna make an effort to watch this but always seem to forget to watch things.

I wanna get more albums but there are two problems; $ & what to get next. There is so much stuff! This second hand music guy who has a stall at my uni claims to have everything ever released in his collection and apparently its a lot. There is all these bootlegs and tidbits as well. For example, he showed me a CD which is Zappa and his parents recorded in his lounge room? heard this anyone?

I think I'll just keep listening to apostrophe on high rotation until I get cash enough for whatever is next available/recommended and keep doing that. Collecting everything seems out of my league though.

I'm thinking "Weasels Ripped my Flesh" next, seems to be highly recommended, or maybe the CD the guy showed me out of interest....

feel free to add suggestion...

Ironically, Tunstall, I would suggest that you would probably like One Size Fits All (among others), but it's kind of a matter of checking the band lineups, because just 'cause you like a song like Valley Girl, doesn't mean you're gonna like something like Afternoon of a sexually aroused gas mask, in fact, you might hate it.
But yeah, there's heaps of different stuff in heaps of different styles...could be worth just hitting up the downloads off the net if you can find them.

TuN$tall 16:02 16/Apr/07

well thats where all the songs i have heard come from, but it is a bit restrictive as to what you can get. I was lucky to get the whole of "sheik yerbouti" about a year ago and thats been listened to a lot.

Other than that you just get all loose songs and it really feels like i'm missing the context if you know what I mean? especially when his albums from what I've heard seem to lead pretty much one song to the next. It's real annoying when you listen to downloaded songs because when you're right into it, it starts to change to the next song, and you're listening intently for the next bit, and it just stops because thats the official end of the song, but like, you miss what it naturally flows into.

I always hated when don't eat the yellow snow ended for example on the downloaded copy I had, but when you listen to the record you get to hear it start with wind in the background, lead into the song, then lead into track two about the fur trapper, then strangely link into st. alfonso's pancake breakfast.

You miss that with individual songs though.

I think torrents might be the way to go, downloading whole albums, but i haven't gotten into that. I found one torrent when I was sussing out this whole torrent idea, where it was a Zappa discography. It was a ridiculously large file, but then again I'd probably end up spending a ridiculously large amount of money if i bought that in vinyl or CD.

I might have to invest in one of them external hard drives so I have somewhere to put this stuff....

I should look into that...

Also then I can have this stuff readily listenable, records are a bit gay in that regard.

well none of it was probably a revelation to you anyways foxie baby.

a few things really amazed me about the man though. One of them was that he owned his own masters to all of his work AND
that he evern wrote the percussion/orchestral music as well! how good is that!

When asked "how did you know how to do that" his answer was "I looked it up in the library"
