Dili Skatepark

Description: The skatepark was made about five years ago. The ramps have varying transitions from good to terrible. It's a challenging park to skate but certainly lots of fun. There are two large quarters, three smaller ones, a funbox, three ledges and some other small ramps plus a couple of rails inside the office. Some transitions are pretty kinked. The ground has been recently resurfaced (November 2012) and was fast and smooth then. Hopefully it withstands the monsoon. There is nowhere to buy boards or skate products from in Timor, I've heard you can buy stuff in Bali. If you are planning on skating whilst you are here make sure you bring everything you need. Apart from the younger kids, there are around 6 or 7 guys aged around 20 who skate the park regularly. They are usually there from around 5.00pm onwards. Skating outside of the 5.00-6.30pm window is insanity. I'm unsure if anyone else skates street in Dili. Feel free to contact me if you want info on spots or other Timor-Leste related information: morton.oj@gmail.com

Ba Futuru NGO's office on Rai Kotu, Comoro, Dili, Timor-Leste Directions: About a 10-15 minute drive from the centre of Dili, head out along Comoro Rd, go past Arte Moris, go straight at the airport roundabout and it's about 200m up the road on the left hand side. Getting There: A taxi from town should cost around $3 depending on your negotiating skills, a mikrolet (shared taxi van) will cost 25 centavos per trip Location: The skatepark is on the grounds of Ba Futuru, a peace building and community development NGO (www.bafuturu.org). If you are passing by for a skate, say hello. The staff are very friendly and the local children will love you if you get the skateboards out for them. If you don't have a board, Ba Futuru have several and may being willing to let you borrow one of theirs. Next door to the skatepark is a nunnery, out the front of it is an amazing bakery and inside the grounds is a coffee shop. Both are worth checking out.
